Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta has spoken about his boys and why he decided to appoint Martin Ødegaard as the new skipper of the club. The Arsenal boss made his decision known to everyone before their Emirates clash with Sevilla Fc on the 30th of July 2022.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder is also captain of his home country and has previously worn the Armband for the club on different occasions. Other players like Aaron Ramsdale, Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey were considered fit for the position but the boss made his choice and is confident about it.
Arteta when asked about Ødegaard becoming captain in a recent interview said he is very proud of his choice and has seen the level of commitment the player has for the club.
He went ahead to say that “What I’ve seen over the past 18 months since he’s been with us, he’s represented the values of this football club, the team, the teammates and the staff in the best possible way. He’s displayed an ambition to take this club to a different level, to push this team and contribute within it, and as well the way he is respected by everyone inside the organisation.”
