According to rumors, Paris Saint-Germain is in talks with Tottenham Hotspur about signing Tanguy Ndombele before the transfer market closes on January 31st.
According to RMC Sport, the Parisian club offered Paredes in a swap deal for the French midfielder, but the Argentine declined to join Tottenham as part of the agreement.
The Gunners are in desperate need of a midfielder, and luring Paredes to the red half of north London would give Mikel Arteta’s team a significant advantage in the race for the top four.
Arsenal and Tottenham are both fighting for a place in the top four, and they are only one point apart. However, if Spurs were able to sign Paredes, they would have gained the upper hand because their midfield would be significantly improved.
The fact that the Ligue 1 club offered Paredes in a prospective swap deal indicates that he is available for a move, and Arteta should look into it.
Despite his rejection of Spurs, Arsenal may be confident in landing his signature because Edu has previously convinced South American players to join the club.
Paredes was instrumental in Argentina’s victory over Edu’s Brazil in the COPA America final this summer. The midfielder has a wealth of experience and has played a key role in his club and country’s recent title victories.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Arsenal’s midfield problems are being addressed by Arthur Melo, whose agent Federico Pastorello has been to London to express his client’s wish to join the north London club.
If this deal falls through, though, Paredes would be a good backup option and would form a strong pairing with Thomas Partey.
Arsenal might kill two birds with one stone by acquiring Paredes, since it would not only be morally devastating to Spurs, but it would also help Arteta’s team in their Champions League qualification campaign.
