Arsenal has been given a fantastic opportunity to address their striker problem by signing Mauro Icardi from PSG.

According to French newspaper l’Equipe, the Argentine has been judged surplus to requirements by the Ligue 1 club and has been placed on the transfer list alongside six other players.

The Gunners are on the cusp of a striker problem as a result of contract extensions and players’ ability deteriorating, so they’ll need to come up with new attacking ideas.

Icardi is regarded as one of Europe’s top strikers and would be a good choice for Edu to consider.

Since joining the Parisian club in 2019, the 28-year-old has struggled, although this is owing to the system failing to play to his abilities, and he has recently been left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

Icardi’s admission is understandable given that he is vying for a spot in the team with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi, three of Europe’s top attackers.

Fans saw the best of the Argentine during his time at Inter Milan, where he captained the squad for seven years.

The striker scored 124 goals in 219 appearances for the Serie A club, and despite being largely used as a substitute at Paris Saint-German, he still managed to score 36 goals in 79 games.

It’s apparent he’s a natural goal scorer, which Arsenal desperately needs given the club’s terrible conversion rate, which has resulted in a negative goal differential in the league this season.

He’s also required because the Gunners are facing a striker issue, and Arteta is expected to buy a new striker in the next two transfer windows. The contracts of Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are slated to expire in the summer, and it appears that both forwards will leave.

The only senior attackers at the club will be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Folarin Balogun, with the latter likely to be loaned out to obtain more first-team experience.

Icardi would be a fantastic short-term solution to Arsenal’s troubles, and the striker’s availability in January would be a bonus. However, rather than merely delivering the goals, Edu should hunt for a new option that is more likely to suit Arteta’s strategy in the long run.
