Granit Xhaka has been routinely putting his club in an awkward position by being sent off, according to Arsenal star Martin Keown, who believes that a decision on his future should be taken before it is too late.
Keown acknowledges that while manager Mikel Arteta adores the midfielder, he does not believe he is the type of player the team requires to progress.
“If I were one of the players, I wouldn’t have been able to look at him last night after that game because of what he put his colleagues through,” the former defender remarked on talkSPORT.
“It happens over and over again.” When it happened at the Etihad, it was embarrassing because they were so poor, but he was a big part of it.
“The management definitely wants him because he rushed him back into the team after he was suspended earlier in the season. He was hurt, so he went right back in.
“That was not the case for Tierney and other players who you would regard to be among the best in the world.”
“He has a manager who adores him, but I believe that if Arsenal are to be successful in the future, Xhaka is not up to the task.”
However, they do require his services at this time, and he must first clean up his act. At the moment, he is costing Arsenal.”
Xhaka will miss Arsenal’s major north London derby against Tottenham due to his red card against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
