After completing a loan move to AS Roma in Serie A, football analyst Danny Mills believes Ainsley Maitland-Niles may be aware that he has played his final game for Arsenal.
The ex-Leeds United and England defender told Football Insider that there is a chance that the versatile player may not return to the Emirates Stadium as an Arsenal player.
After spending the second half of last season on loan at West Brom, Maitland-Niles made just 11 appearances in all competitions this season, including only two Premier League starts. This is why he made the decision to leave.
As a result, Danny Mills told Football Insider contributor Connor Whitley, “I’m shocked he hadn’t [already gone] when you look at the players they’ve brought in.”
“Does this move come as a surprise?” Most likely not. Tierney and Tavares are both in the starting lineup at left-back. He’s most likely slipped down the food chain.
“He probably feels he’ll never play for the club again, so he needs to go out and prove what he’s capable of.”
“He’s a really excellent player, but it appears that Arsenal isn’t very interested in him and wants to move him on for whatever reason.”
