As the clock ticks down to the January transfer window, the north London club will undoubtedly be connected with a number of potential new recruits in the coming days and weeks.
Mikel Arteta is considering adding to his attacking options at The Emirates in the new year, and Everton’s Calvert-Lewin has been mentioned as a prospective target for the Gunners.
After being deprived of his captaincy due to a disciplinary breach, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future remains a talking issue at The Emirates, while Alexandre Lacazette’s deal expires in the summer.
Barnes, a former Liverpool FC and England winger, believes Calvert-Lewin would be a terrific addition for Arsenal if they pursue him in the new year.
“Arsenal have been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which would be a wonderful addition for them,” Barnes remarked in an interview with Bonuscodebets, as quoted by Metro.
“He’s young, English, and shows a lot of devotion and effort, but he’s currently with Everton, and he won’t want to go right now.”
“The Everton supporters adore him, and he’s doing well there, but he needs to maintain that level of consistency for both club and country before considering a move to one of the bigger teams.”
“Realistically, he hasn’t done enough for Everton to consider him for a move.” If he were to join Arsenal, though, it would be a fantastic signing for both parties, particularly Arsenal.”
Calvert-season Lewin’s has been hampered by injury thus far, with the 24-year-old scoring three Premier League goals in three games before suffering toe and thigh problems.
Arsenal’s decision on whether or not to enter the January transfer market remains to be seen. Arsenal’s goal, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, will be to bolster their midfield, however they may attempt to bring in a new striker in January if the appropriate opportunity presents itself.
“The opportunities in the midfield are the focus for Arsenal in January,” Romano said earlier this month on the Here We Go podcast.
“We’ve already stated our position on the striker situation. They’ve already begun their search for a new striker for 2022.
“If they discover the proper opportunity in January, there is a chance [of a signing], but the January transfer market is tricky.” Arsenal intends to sign a new striker in the summer of 2022.”
