Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player and TV pundit, has compared Arsenal prospect Gabriel Martinelli to Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez.
The 20-year-old has been in excellent form for Arsenal recently, scoring yet another goal against West Ham on Wednesday.
Martinelli was able to bend a run between Craig Dawson and Vladimir Coufal thanks to a swift and precise two-pass move.
The Brazilian grabbed the ball and opened out his body to curl the ball past the Hammers’ goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
It was the youngster’s second goal of the season, and it marked a fantastic return to first-team action, given his recent form.
In his last five outings, the versatile forward has been involved in four goals, assisting Mikel Arteta and his side to a nine-point haul in the Premier League.
Martinelli’s form has sparked a lot of acclaim, and Cole is the latest to add his two cents, claiming that this is the first time in a decade that the Gunners can truly develop something.
“I left the stadium and I was driving away,” the former midfielder stated on BT Sport. “This is the first time in ten years that there is something to work from with Arsenal, there is a base,” I thought.
In 666 career games, the 33-year-old scored over 350 goals and assisted on over 140 occasions. The striker progressed from wonderkid to top striker, garnering a slew of awards along the way.
If Martinelli is able to follow in Martinelli’s footsteps, it can only be a good thing for the Gunners.
